Summit oversaw the Riverwalk’s development from initial planning through construction, incorporating innovative methods to save costs and time while connecting local neighborhoods to downtown Hillsborough along the Eno River.​ 

Town of Youngsville Stormwater Analysis

This town-wide stormwater infrastructure inventory resulted in 489 features collected along 10 miles of roadway. Using field evaluations and hydraulic analyses, a maintenance plan prioritizing repairs and replacements was developed.​ 

Town of Angier Sidewalk Expansions

With this series of projects, the Town of Angier became a repeat client, continuing to procure Summit services from survey to construction document preparation for three total sidewalk projects, including drainage and curb and gutter.​

City of Durham Culvert Replacement

Summit successfully led the replacement of deteriorating aluminum pipe arches with a double barrel reinforced concrete box culvert, ensuring a No-Impact qualification with extensive hydraulic design, roadway adjustments, and additional infrastructure updates.​ 

Pinecroft Place Apt. Flood Mitigation Design

Summit provided civil and structural engineering, surveying, and landscape architecture services for the flood remediation project at Pinecroft Place Apartments. The 22-acre site was developed in 1973 with 20 townhome buildings and associated site amenities. Due to its location within a delta of a nearby stream, the ground floor apartments repeatedly flooded, displacing residents and damaging the foundations of the building. As a result of the last flood, 32 units were condemned.

Summit’s hydraulic design team addressed residential drainage issues for the City of Durham by evaluating, designing, and finalizing repairs for five drainage networks, incorporating field data, hydraulic analysis, and coordination to comply with city standards and overcome system constraints.​ 

Town of Hillsborough Culvert Replacement

Using HEC-RAS, our design team modeled and identified No-Rise alternatives with cost estimates for the FEMA-regulated Cates Creek crossing on Valley Forge Road and followed up with Construction Administration and Inspection services to ensure this infrastructure was installed properly.​

This .25-mile bridge replacement utilized an on-site detour and associated traffic control phasing with comprehensive services, including geotechnical engineering, roadway design, hydrologic design, and erosion control design in close coordination with NCDOT and other consultants.​ 

City of Raleigh NC Wetland Park

Located in a FEMA-regulated floodplain and working within tight constraints of No-Rise, the design team provided a floating platform and trailway design. Surveying and CMT/SI were also provided. ​

The Town of Woodstock is a picturesque and historic community in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley facing growth pressure that has previously created sprawling development patterns. With the public expressing a strong desire to preserve “small town charm,” our planning process focused on reframing perceptions of density, advocating for quality in the built environment, and providing for more connectivity around the community that will help it reach its desired vision for the future. 

Town of Tappahannock Downtown Revitalization

To properly understand Tappahannock and its needs, Summit’s Planning department took inventory of existing businesses and conditions, reviewed and analyzed survey data, held stakeholder meetings, and conducted further surveying, including intercept surveys at Tappahannock’s farmers market, in service to the project.

  • Reimaging a main thoroughfare as a pedestrian and bicycle friendly avenue with increased seating availability and greenery
