Project Description

Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA) tasked Summit with developing a Comprehensive Strategic Master Plan for their housing assets. This Master Plan included short- and long-range goals and strategies to better position the housing authority and its properties over the next twenty years.

It was important to provide CRHA with realistic and attainable goals and strategies that provided a general direction and a clear path forward for the intended transformation. With that in mind, Summit’s planning staff meticulously evaluated a series of housing units and properties to create a roadmap for CRHA’s future.

Once the roadmap was developed, our architecture staff designed housing alternatives and solutions to make CRHA’s inventory marketable.

The scope of work on the CRHA Master Plan for our architecture team was as follows:

  • Visited each of CHRA’s public and affordable housing stock and access conditions of each property (Architectural condition, life safety, and structural).
  • Worked with Authority to create a master plan road map to inform future development for their undeveloped properties.
  • Participated in Town Hall meetings to gather intel on what current tenants envision for future developments.
  • Develop conceptual plans, elevations, and renderings for future development of single-family homes, townhouses, senior housing, small grocery stores, office, and retail facilities.
