We provided geotechnical engineering, Special Inspections, and construction materials testing for this three-story, 100,000-square-foot, steel-framed building. The school building stands on the site of the original Northside Elementary School, which played a prominent role in the history of segregated schools in Chapel Hill. The building is meant to be not only a place of learning but a place to support a thriving community and showcase the historic vibrance of the neighborhood.
We provided the Geotechnical Engineer of Record, soils and construction materials sampling, and laboratory testing. Lab testing included inspection of concrete testing, structural steel welding inspections of the steel-braced frames, structural masonry inspections of the cafeteria and auditorium framing walls, and reinforced concrete inspections for the column and wall footings, foundation walls, and lightweight concrete composite deck slabs.
