Project Description

We are providing the planning and engineering design services for the addition of a right turn lane on NC Highway 55 Bypass between Avent Ferry Road and South Main Street within the municipal boundaries of the Town of Holly Springs. To add the turn lane, a 20+ foot embankment will need to be constructed and drainage will have to be reconfigured. To avoid affecting a shopping center located nearby and the replacement of any cross pipes under NC 55, Summit designed the embankments with 1.5:1 reinforced slopes and the ditch grades will flow opposite the roadway grade. These innovations shortened the design schedule and will save money and time during construction.

This project had been completely Town funded through bonds, but the Town recently received funding from the MPO which will change this project to a LAPP project. Our experience with the LAPP process allows us to easily handle the process changes necessary to receive LAPP funding. Additionally, we are partnering with Three Oaks for environmental permitting, public involvement, and NEPA/SEPA. Summit is providing detailed engineering design including roadway design, hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering, work zone traffic control, pavement marking, signing, and erosion control to develop full construction plans, prepare bid packages, and administer the public bid processes for the resulting construction project.
