Project Description

We were the lead CEI firm for the 16-mile US 17 widening project from the South of Belgrade to the US 17 New Bern Bypass in Division 2. Our staff included a Project Manager and 12 CEI technicians, which included lead Tech IV inspectors over roadways and structures. The 143-million-dollar project comprises over 4.8 million yards of borrow, 300,000 tons of asphalt, numerous utility relocations, 25 bridges, and one culvert. In addition, there are two dual 1,200-foot structures over the White Oak and Trent Rivers, multiple bridges over wetlands, crossroads, and one wildlife crossing bridge. Gannett Fleming is our team member for this project.

As a route used by thousands of cars a day, the stretch of US 17 is often tight with beach and daily commuter traffic. The Maysville Bypass aims to offer a high-speed alternative for travelers that will relieve the heavily congested downtown areas along the current route. This will leave the previous downtown areas more pedestrian-friendly while also shaving time off commutes.
