The Summit Story, Part Two: Through The Eyes of Our Staff, Cont.

Decorative Banner that reads: "he Summit Story Through the Eyes of our Staff"

Introduction

Every company has a history, and much like humans, that history is unique. In the over twenty years our firm has been in operation, we have generated quite a collective history. Every one of our employees has had a hand in that growth, and we are very excited to share their stories with you all.

This week, we are featuring interviews with Raleigh area manager Robby H., Project Coordinator John C., and Internal Controls Manager Sarah M. Having been with Summit for over a decade, each featured employee brings us new and exciting details about the Summit Story. They’ve seen us through significant firm changes, such as the addition of Architecture and Structural Engineering services– and they even remember a time without our now-crucial IT department!

Check out their perspectives in the videos below!

How did you get introduced to Summit?

Jim, our CEO and the visionary leader of our company, is responsible for much of the top talent recruitment to this day. Hear how some of the leaders at our firm found their way to Summit through the people they knew and the work they had done previously!

When did you start?

It’s fantastic to hear how some of our staff have witnessed Summit’s tremendous growth over the years. Knowing that we now employ over 400 people, it’s hard to imagine Summit operating with only a few dozen!

What was orientation like?

Orientation has evolved significantly since we first began operating and recruiting. There was a time at Summit where orientation was handled using VHS tapes– a real relic of the past!

What was your first office like?

Our old office space was known for it’s size– or lack thereof. Our staff talks about the early days of Summit and what it was like to work in the “old space,” where the biggest room in the building belonged to the Survey department!

Who were some of the first people you met?

Jim Parker remains one of the primary individuals who defined the early days of many employees experience, alongside longstanding employees like Donna D.  and previous Summit Story interviewees, Sherry J. and Kevin D.!

What are some defining moments in your career with Summit?

For these interviewees, the most impressive moments in Summit haven’t been singular. Instead, the defining Summit experience is the the massive growth and development we’ve not only seen in recent years, but maintained!

Do you have any unique stories or memories?

Summit has navigated some significant challenges in it’s lifetime, from recessions to pandemics. We even had a period where we didn’t have an in-house IT department! Take a listen to some of the memories our employees have to share in the video below.

What has kept you working at Summit?

The results are in: The Summit Family isn’t just for show. When asked why our long-standing employees stay, the main reason our staff remains is because of the people we employ. Our sense of community and support, the people who help shape careers, and the relationships we foster are key factors in why people remain.

The Summit Story continues…

The next part of the Summit Story comes directly from our President, Troy D., later this month! Stay tuned for this unique insight into the history of our Firm.
